About Brandon
Representative Brandon Jones was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives in 2007. His district, House District 111, covers much of southern Jackson County including parts of Pascagoula, Gautier, Ocean Springs, and Vancleave.
In the House of Representatives, Brandon has emerged as a leading voice on insurance reform, education, and domestic violence. As Vice-chairman of the House Insurance Committee, Brandon has co-authored the Policyholder’s Bill of Rights, a measure that has passed on the floor of the House in two of Brandon’s first three years in office. Brandon has supported strong public schools by consistently voting to fully fund the Mississippi Adequate Education Program and has a 100% voting record on initiatives introduced under the Quality Education Act. In 2009, Brandon authored House Bill 989, a measure that provided much needed funding to the Victims of Domestic Violence Fund. On March 30, 2009, House Bill 989 was signed by Governor Haley Barbour. In honor of his work to end domestic violence in Mississippi, Brandon was named the 2009 Chick Ball Hero of the Year by the Jackson Free Press.
Brandon has participated in the State Legislative Leaders Foundation’s Program for Emerging Political Leaders and the Southern Legislative Conference’s Center for the Advancement of Leadership Skills. In 2009, Brandon was named a Marshall Memorial Fellow by the German Marshall Fund of the United States. In 2009, Brandon gave the Democratic Party Response to Governor Barbour’s State of the State Address.
In addition to serving as the Vice-chairman of the Insurance Committee, Brandon sits on the Education; Judiciary B; Judiciary En Banc; Oil, Gas, and Other Minerals; Ports, Harbors, and Airports; and Transportation committees.
Born in 1977 in Pascagoula, Brandon is the son of an accountant, Ed, and a former school teacher, Mary. Brandon attended public schools in Pascagoula prior to enrolling at Mississippi College where he was Student Government Association President and earned a B.A. in English and History. MC honored Brandon by inducting him into its Hall of Fame. After Mississippi College, Brandon attended Wake Forest University Divinity School where he was elected President of the Divinity School’s Student Government Association and received a Master of Divinity degree. Following divinity school, Brandon enrolled at Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law where he was elected Moot Court Board Chairman, won the Lawson Oral Argument Competition, and earned a law degree.
Brandon works as an attorney in the Barton Law Firm in Pascagoula. He and his wife, Laurie, were married in 2002 and have two children, Ellen and Gray. The Joneses are active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Pascagoula where Brandon teaches Sunday School.
