Busby Goes Negative with False Attack

Oct 5, 2011

Dear Friends,

During the last four years, I’ve cast thousands of votes for this district.  I’m proud of my record and stand by these votes.

That’s why it is so disappointing to learn that my opponent has chosen to go negative with false attacks.  In a mail piece that arrived in mailboxes today, Mr. Busby falsely claims that I ignored several bills.  The truth is that I have voted on every single bill mentioned in this misleading ad.

Senate Bill 2628 otherwise known as the “Children’s First Act of 2009” was an important bill that brought a measure of much needed accountability to failing school districts.  I was pleased to help strengthen this bill in the House Education Committee and proudly voted for the bill when it reached the House floor.  You can see a record of my vote here: http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/2009/pdf/votes/house/0590035.pdf

Senate Bill 2746, a bill that passed overwhelmingly in 2009, authorized the University Medical Center in Jackson to donate surplus food.  I was happy to support this bill and voted for it when it made its way to the House floor.  You can see my vote here: http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/2009/pdf/votes/house/0560009.pdf

House Bill 1713, a bill that passed during the 2009 regular session by a vote of 118-2, helped provide much needed funding for a variety of rail projects.  You can see my vote on the conference report here: http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/2009/pdf/votes/house/0800015.pdf

The challenges facing Mississippi are real and the November 8 election is important.  That’s why I plan to continue talking about the issues that matter to Jackson County families.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve,

Brandon
